Medicare Is A Government Health Insurance Program

Medicare Information provides you with information and links that gives you an overview of the federal Medicare programs. When it comes to Medicare, you will want to know if you are eligible for Medicare, where and how to apply for Medicare, and the type of health insurance and hospital insurance coverage that is provided by Medicare.

Medicare is divided into 4 different groups. Each group or part is designed to provide you coverage to help cover your hospital and medical expenses. Some of the Medicare plans are provided by the federal government and additional Medicare coverage is provided by Medicare approved private health insurance companies.

There are four parts to Medicare:

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) - Medicare Plan Part A covers your inpatient care in skilled nursing facilities, critical access hospitals, and general hospital expenses.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) - Medicare Plan Part B covers your outpatient care, doctor's services, physical or occupational therapists, and additional home health care.

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) - Medicare Advantage plans, typically offer you more benefits than Original Medicare (Parts A and B). A majority of the Medicare Advantage plans provide you options for emergency care, fixed health care costs, prescription drug benefits, and limits on out-of-pocket expenses. Medicare Advantage plans are only provided through private health insurance companies that have been approved by Medicare.

Medicare Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug Plan) - Medicare Plan Part D is a prescription drug insurance plan that covers both your generic and brand name prescription drugs.

What is Medicare supplemental insurance? Medicare does not cover all of your healthcare expenses. The additional healthcare costs that Medicare does not cover can be covered by supplemental insurance that is purchased from private health insurance companies.
